Rise n’ shine and head to Whihala Beach on Saturday, June 24th for Studio 659’s 2nd Annual Sand Sculpting Competition
Teams and participants will build their masterpieces from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m., this year, with the opportunity to witness breathtaking sand sculpting by World Champion medal holder and Professional Sand Sculptor, Carl Jara (Flickr gallery | website).
The Competition will have a nominal entry fee ($5/kid & $10/adult). Cash prizes will be awarded in a number of categories (Family/Youth Team/Adult Team/Youth and Adult Solo). Registration will begin at 7a.m. in the grassy area near the boat launch. Each participant will be invited to craft a sand sculpture that best reflects the theme: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Judging will begin at Noon.
You must bring your own building equipment and only sand and natural debris found on the beach may be used in the construction of the sculptures. Water may be drawn from the Lake but no additional adhesives are permitted and anything that may disrupt the ecological environment will be prohibited.
This is a great way to celebrate Summer in Whiting, create a brilliant work of art and have some fun with family and friends. The Sand Sculpture Competition is hosted by the Whiting Arts Council in conjunction with the City of Whiting.
